Easy & healthy hot chocolate

Have you ever read the ingredients on some hot chocolate mixes and realized it contains some weird stuff in it (aka dairy)? Do you have nightmares about your homemade hot chocolate having chunks of undissolved powder in it? Do I sound like an infomercial yet???

Today I’m going to teach you how to make THE BEST hot chocolate. Ever. It only takes a handful of ingredients and it will be the creamiest, richest hot chocolate you will ever taste.

1 tablespoon cacao powder
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon maple syrup
2 tablespoons hot water
8 oz coconut milk (any plant milk will do)

In a small ramekin or bowl, mix the cacao powder, salt, maple syrup, and hot water until smooth. In a small saucepan, add the milk and the cacao mixture and heat slowly until steaming, stirring often.

You an enjoy it as is or add any of the following to spice it up:

Ginger Hot Chocolate/ Add 1/4 teaspoon of ginger
Spicy Hot Chocolate/ Add a pinch (or more!) of cayenne
Peppermint “Candy Cane” Hot Chocolate/ Add 1/4 to 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract, depending how strong you like the peppermint flavour
Orange Hot Chocolate/ Add 1/4 to 1 teaspoon of orange extract or a squeeze of fresh orange juice

Pour into your favourite mug and top with coconut whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon. Enjoy!
